A super stylish and practical Norwegian design classic by Cathrineholm, with white lotus pattern on 'butterscotch' enamel. A large, useful pot which can be placed directly on the heat, or in the oven, and very attractive addition to any kitchen. A matching smaller (18cm) casserole is also available.

A small chip to the outside and one inside but in overall good vintage condition.

Mark to base: Cathrineholm   (logo)   of Norway

The Cathrineholm factory opened in Halden, Norway in 1907 producing ironworks and agricultural equipment, they then moved to creating signage and general household wares, before moving on to enamelled kitchenware. The designer Grete Prytz Kittelsen was contracted to Cathrineholm from 1955 until 1972 and during that time she designed a range of enamelware for the company - most famously Lotus (1962-65) and Stripes (1956), Square (1958) and Bands (1958). The highly recognisable lotus pattern was not the work of Grete herself, but by another employee and Grete was known to say that she didn't like the pattern as it ruined the look of her solid-colour design. However the lotus design has become the most eagerly collected Cathrineholm design, a classic of mid century Scandinavian style.
