Rarely seen Cornishware rolling pin (no handles), in classic blue and white stripe, by T G Green. The earliest models were produced in plain white ceramic, but the 1958 catalogue pictures a striped version on the cover and lists the rolling pin with wooden handles, although later versions sometimes have ceramic handles.

Cornishware was first produced in 1924, created by using a lathe-turning technique that scraped blue slip away from the ceramic to reveal white bands of clay beneath. Those stripes reminded an employee of the blue skies and white-crested waves of Cornwall – which is how Cornishware got its name. In the 1960s Cornishware’s look was updated by Judith Onions and the restyled range was embraced as warmly as the originals.
