Small Denby Chevron coffee pot - 12 rows of chevrons. Matt dark olive / khaki green, 'ogee' spout and white highlight to lid. Designed by Gill Pemberton, dating from around 1961. Excellent condition.

Chevron was a stark departure from the rounded, highly glazed shapes of previous ceramic designs with it's straight sides, industrial - almost military - green colour and contrasting matt exteriors and egg shell white highly glazed interiors. The design is one of the classics of the 20th Century as revolutionary as it was popular, typifying the mood of the 1960s.

The range was huge, consisting of over 70 pieces, ergonomically correct and balanced to use. Initially all the casserole dishes and cups/mugs were hand thrown, and the flatware hand jollied. The distinctive serrated “chevron” pattern was created with a small roller.
