Fabulous, rare example of Caithness Glass lamp base from the 60's, design no.4011, in "peat" colourway. First shown in Pottery Gazette in February 1967.
The extravagant, sculptural form is less austere than many other Caithness designs. OBroin was a fan of science fiction films and this particular form may have been inspired by UFOs.
Originally electrical fittings were glued into the top using Araldite.
Looks great today as a decorative object or vase.
