Large platter in the Canterbury pattern by Langley. Attractive, stylised floral design in yellow, ochre, sage and brown with orange rim. A very decorative piece.
Canterbury was marketed by Denby in the mid-1960s under the name of Langley a ‘natural homemaker’ series, and was based on one set of shapes. The formalised pattern of flowers, buds and leaves in browns and gold’s covered the plate and was likened in an advertisement of the day to ‘the colour of warm sunlight on a sandstone wall’. Produced in 1964 and especially named for the American market, the homespun quality made it popular in this country throughout the 1960s and was the forerunner of many other stylised patterns.
