Denby Chevron lidded soup bowl, with two handles, designed by Gill Pemberton around 1961.Matt dark olive / khaki green, white highlight to lid and white internal glaze - 3 rows of chevrons.

Chevron was a stark departure from the rounded, highly glazed shapes of previous ceramic designs with it's straight sides, industrial - almost military - green colour and contrasting matt exteriors and egg shell white highly glazed interiors. The design is one of the classics of the 20th Century as revolutionary as it was popular, typifying the mood of the 1960s.

The range was huge, consisting of over 70 pieces, ergonomically correct and balanced to use. Initially all the casserole dishes and cups/mugs were hand thrown, and the flatware hand jollied. The distinctive serrated “chevron” pattern was created with a small roller.
